Bakersfield Man Fatally Shot by Police in Las Vegas After Chase
Police shot a 19-year-old Bakersfield man at one of the city’s busiest intersections minutes after he allegedly robbed a nearby bar, authorities said Tuesday.
A 13-year-old runaway girl from Bakersfield, who was a passenger in the suspect’s car, was injured by the gunfire and listed in fair condition.
Police officers responding to a report of a robbery in progress late Monday night saw the suspect run from the business and take off in a car, said Metro Police Capt. Greg Jolley.
As the officers pursued him, the suspect was caught in traffic at the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Swenson Street, the main thoroughfare leading traffic away from McCarran International Airport.
As a handful of police units boxed the vehicle in and several officers approached on foot, the suspect rammed his way past a vehicle and drove toward one of the officers, Jolley said. Four other officers opened fire, he said, in full view of startled motorists.
The suspect’s identity was not immediately released by the Clark County coroner’s office. A sawed-off rifle and a revolver were found in the vehicle.
