Reventon Super Estrella is billed as the biggest Spanish-language pop-rock concert in the U.S., and like KIIS-FM’s Wango Tango and KROQ-FM’s Weenie Roast, the KSSE-FM-sponsored event goes straight to the commercial heart of the music. Among the attractions at the third annual addition is hot vocal group Son by Four.

Northern California’s The Mother Hips is still at work on the follow-up to the band’s 1998 album, “Later Days,” but in the meantime, it’s issued one song, “Third Floor Story,” appropriately enough for this ‘60s-rooted outfit, on vinyl. “There’s pretty much no country rock on [the new album],” songwriter Tim Bluhm told the SF Weekly recently. “It’s poppier, but it’s also more experimental.” Fans might get a preview come Saturday when the group returns to the Coach House.

The Orange County Crazies and Condor Freight Lines sponsor a stand-up comedy competition tonight in which eight local finalists show what they can do with a mike and a joke. Judges will be on hand to select the four best, who will spar in the final contest a week later.
