One of the good things about living in the San Fernando Valley is the wide selection of live music available. Especially in the summer. And especially when it’s free.

* The Valley Cultural Center’s Concerts in the Park series is celebrating its 25th season this summer with a varied lineup of musical talent. This Sunday, blues man Finis Tasby will perform. Subsequent weeks will feature country and western by the Doo Wah Riders, July 23; Grammy winner Kim Carnes (“Bette Davis Eyes”), July 30; San Fernando Valley Symphony, Aug. 6; Cultural Arts Festival featuring Airto and Flora Purim and other acts, Aug. 13; and Tommy Newsom, formerly of the “Tonight Show” band, Aug. 20. The series will close Aug. 27 with a tribute to Jerry Herman, composer of “Hello Dolly,” “Mame” and other musicals. (818) 704-1587.

* Santa Clarita’s Concerts in the Parks series will have reggae band Common Sense performing Sunday. The July 23 concert will feature former members of various major rock acts (including the Eagles, Wings, Toto, Foreigner and the Moody Blues) performing their hits. Later concerts will feature Latin funk-jazz by David Garfield, July 30; BackBeat, a Beatles tribute act, Aug. 6; the Bill Tole Orchestra, Aug. 13; and the Royal Crown Revue, Aug. 20. * The Skirball Cultural Center is presenting its fourth season of free sunset concerts focusing on world music. Israel’s Guy Kark and Between Times perform Thursday followed by Senegalese Afro-Pop band Toure Toure, July 27; Brazilian Celso Machado, Aug. 3; Mexican songstress Lila Downs, Aug. 10; and an Indian-jazz fusion concert, Aug. 17.
