Winds Hinder Efforts to Fight Rash of Fires

From Times Wire Reports

A wildfire burned out of control near the ancient city of Corinth as gale-force winds fanned about 100 more blazes nationwide, seriously hampering efforts to fight the fires. Fires burned on both sides of the Corinth Canal, which separates central Greece from the south and is about 45 miles southwest of the capital, Athens. The ruins of Corinth were not threatened. Winds of about 40 mph were preventing or hampering the use of firefighting aircraft. The fires generated so much smoke that a brown haze settled over central Athens.
