It’s No Surprise that No One Showed

Isn’t it time to think about something more meaningful than the baseball All-Star game as a midseason promotion? Years ago, when salaries were much smaller, the game had some meaning. Most players wanted to play. But now, with the superstars getting those million-dollar salaries, the pittance they get paid for the game is not worth giving up those valuable three days on the beaches or golf courses of Hawaii. And, with interleague play already in force, there is no more novelty.

I know there are some legitimate injuries, but isn’t it odd that suddenly right before the game, aches and pains mount by the ambulance load? This year’s game more appropriately served as a chapter of “ER.”
