SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Police were searching Monday for a man who raped a woman in the restroom of a Mission Viejo gas station.

Orange County sheriff’s officials said the attack happened about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, when the 26-year-old woman stopped at a service station at Alicia Parkway and Trabuco Road. The man, who was hiding inside the unlocked restroom, pushed the door closed behind the woman, grabbed her hair and placed a knife against her throat, investigators said. He then threatened her with the knife and sexually assaulted her.

After the attack, the man fled on foot, police said. No vehicle was seen. No information was available Monday on the victim’s condition.
