Film Hopper: What I really do on weekends is go to the cineplex at the mall and go in and out of movies. And then if something is really good, I’ll make an effort to see it from the beginning. I just pay for whatever isn’t sold out and then go into the next thing playing, and if I’m bored, I’ll go in to something else. Nobody cares, which is why I don’t understand why this ratings thing is such a big deal. If it’s a Woody Allen movie, I’ll see the whole thing on the first day, but most movies, my own included, I just want to see if I feel like seeing them.

Melrose Moments: My daughter is 14, and on Saturday, Melrose is a must for her. I have to drop her and her friend off and pretend I don’t know them for a couple of hours. I’m allowed to bum around, but not within their sight. Sometimes I’ll drive by to see if they’re smoking. This is something that usually involves a new sleazy blouse and coffee at Starbucks.

Revival: This weekend I went with some friends to the American Cinematheque to see “Candy.” If you make the slightest effort you can find a festival or a cool movie showing somewhere. The vibe of the audience is so cool because it’s people who decided to treat a film with a certain reverence and see it rather than on video or DVD.

Concert Alternative: I like to hear live alternative music, anything on Power 106 or KROQ. This year I saw the Goo Goo Dolls and Smashmouth and Fatboy Slim and Method Man. Like the Palladium, I’ve seen a lot of groups there. I’ve seen some at little clubs, the Roxy and all, but that’s more industry-like. But if my brother comes--because I don’t drive on freeways--he’ll take me out to an arena or something.
