A local motorcycle cop who lost his leg after a traffic accident on Yorba Linda Boulevard last year has filed a lawsuit seeking compensation for medical costs and lost wages. Officer Tom Bischetsrieder, who works for the Brea Police Department, is claiming Yorba Linda is responsible for not maintaining the road at the Packing House Square where the accident occurred.
The lawsuit also seeks compensation from the Packing House owner and from Selma Rodriques, whose car Bischetsrieder drove into when she pulled out of the center Nov. 30.
City Atty. Leonard Hampel said Thursday he had not yet seen the lawsuit, but added that Yorba Linda will look into the claims.
“There’s no question about the seriousness of the damage,” he said. “But the question is: Who’s responsible? Normally it would be the driver of the vehicle. But in most cases their insurance can’t cover the costs and the city gets named because it has the deep pockets.”
