Health Inspectors Close Restaurants

The following Ventura County restaurants were closed recently after unsanitary conditions were identified by county Environmental Health Division inspectors. This information is as of July 21:

* Denny’s, 1255 N. Oxnard Blvd., Oxnard: sewage overflowing within the facility, unsanitary conditions; closed and reopened Thursday.

* La Petit Cafe and Bakery, 2810 S. Harbor, Oxnard; cockroach infestation, sewage overflowing within facility, unsanitary conditions; closed Tuesday and reopened Wednesday.

* Shakey’s Pizza Parlor, 444 E. Santa Clara St., Ventura; sewage overflowing within facility, no toilet and no water for hand washing available for employees; closed Monday and reopened Tuesday.

* Las Playas, 601 W. Hueneme Road, Oxnard; cockroach infestation, unsanitary conditions, no method to sanitize utensils/equipment; closed Monday and no reopen date posted.

* Gaviota, ice cream truck, License No. 2HFM807; no hot water, no method for utensil and hand washing, unapproved food preparation; closed July 14 and reopened Monday.

* Tacos Jalisco, 271 E. Channel Island Blvd., Port Hueneme; no method for hand and utensil washing, equipment inoperable; closed and reopened July 12.

* Alcaraz Catering, mobile food preparation truck, License No. 2V96964; inadequate refrigeration; closed and reopened July 11.

Restaurants are permitted to reopen once the problems cited are fixed. For questions or to report a complaint, call the Environmental Health Department at 654-2813 or (800) 660-5474. The switchboard operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
