Mozart Series Set for Irvine, Newport

The Mozart Classical Orchestra will play five concerts in Newport Beach and two in Irvine for its 2000-2001 “Mozart Makes You Smarter” season.

The Newport Beach location will be St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 600 St. Andrews Drive. The Irvine concert site will be the Irvine Barclay Theatre, 4242 Campus Drive. All concerts will be led by orchestra founder Ami Porat.

The season:

* Oct. 5, 8 p.m., in Irvine and Oct. 8, 3 p.m., in Newport Beach: Overture to Rossini’s “La Cambiale di Matrimonio,” Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with soloist Joel Wizansky and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1.

* Nov. 5, 4:30 p.m., in Newport Beach: Kodaly’s Dances, Boccherini’s Cello Concerto in C with soloist Timothy Landauer and Haydn’s Symphony No. 55.

* Jan. 6, 8 p.m., in Irvine and Jan. 7, 4:30 p.m., in Newport Beach: Mozart program, including Allegro in F, Clarinet Concerto, with soloist Gary Bovyer and Symphony No. 39.

* March 25, 4:30 p.m., in Newport Beach: Mozart’s Divertimento in D, Telemann’s Trumpet Concerto with soloist Steven Charpie, Johan Svendsen’s “Scandinavian Melodies” and Arthur Foote’s Serenade in C.

* April 29, 4:30 p.m., in Newport Beach: Mozart’s Symphony No. 24, Mozart’s Violin Concerto in A with soloist Roger Wilkie and Michael Haydn’s Symphony in D.

The five-concert series at St. Andrew’s is $60 to $135; single tickets, $15 to $32. The two-concert Irvine series is $36 to $60; single tickets, $20 to $36. Information: (949) 830-2950.
