7.5 Overnight TV Rating Shows Woods’ Drawing Power
It doesn’t seem to matter if there is little drama in a Tiger Woods victory, people still tune in to watch.
ABC drew a 7.5 overnight rating and a 21 share in the nation’s 48 largest markets Sunday for the final round of the British Open. In L.A., where the coverage ran from 6 to 11 a.m., the rating was a 7.4 with a 25 share.
The overnight rating is the highest for a British Open since ABC began keeping track in 1989 and is a 32% increase over last year’s 5.7/14, which got a boost from Jean Van de Velde’s collapse at 18 and the subsequent three-way playoff.
