Beach Erosion

Re “O.C. Awaits State Aid in Battle of the Beach,” July 14:
The reality of nature when land meets water in a tidal action is land erosion. It has been and always will be. Pouring dollars [to stop erosion] is a losing situation to stem natural forces.
Many times the attempt to fortress against damage results in more harm. How is a man-made breakwater to withstand water force? Some Eastern coastal states have learned that and are preventing land’s edge and bluff construction.
Though I am sorry for people who may experience property loss, I hate to see limited public money supporting a limited stop-gap measure.
