A 29-year-old Oxnard man was arrested and jailed Thursday for allegedly beating and attempting to rape a 60-year-old woman two days earlier, authorities said.

The incident occurred Tuesday evening at a small business in Oxnard, authorities said. The victim, an employee, was closing up for the night when Reno Shadden allegedly entered, forced her to a back room and beat her, authorities said.

A customer walked in moments later, prompting Shadden to flee out the front door, authorities said. The victim suffered minor injuries, which did not require medical treatment.

Oxnard police detectives won’t say what led them to Shadden, who was taken into custody about 7:30 a.m. at his house in the 1900 block of Fisher Drive. He was being held Thursday night on $100,000 bail.
