Cal State Fullerton representatives have been meeting with a local councilman to discuss the possibility of building university housing in one of the areas the city plans to redevelop soon.

The talks are part of a countywide search for land to build additional student and faculty housing, university officials said this week.

City Council members said no formal meetings have taken place, but they did say both parties are interested in working something out.

“One of our biggest challenges is providing affordable housing so we can attract faculty members,” said Judith Anderson, executive vice president of Cal State Fullerton.

Campus representatives have looked for land in Buena Park. In Brea, they discussed the issue but nothing materialized. Talks in Santa Ana led to the establishment of the Grand Central Art Center, a part of the city’s art village that provides classrooms and studio housing for the university’s graduate art students.
