Harold R. Kingston; Lifelong County Resident
Harold R. Kingston, a local flower shop owner, died Sunday in a Ventura hospital, after a brief illness. He was 85.
Born in Ventura on Jan. 2, 1915, he grew up there and was a lifelong county resident.
He served in the Army in Hawaii during World War II.
After the war, he opened the Kingston Florist shop in Ventura. Family members said he enjoyed working there for the last 54 years, calling it a hobby he truly loved.
Kingston was a member of the Ventura Elks, the Ventura Lion’s Club, the American Legion Ventura post and the Florist’s Transworld Delivery service.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Betty, of Ventura; stepsons Richard Armstrong of Portland, Ore., and Thomas Armstrong of Ventura; and sister Lillian Jones of Long Beach.
Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the Joseph Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura.
Funeral services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel at Joseph Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura with the Rev. John Cherrie officiating. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
