SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO

All day

Family

The fifth annual Flower and Garden Festival at Mission San Juan Capistrano has more to offer than the sweet scent of flowers. The festival features garden lecturers, plant vendors and activities for the kids. Children can pan for gold, get their faces painted and paint flowers. If that is not enough to occupy them, balloon artists, snow cones and a children’s garden should keep them busy. Some nonflower festivities planned for the weekend include a live presentation of birds of prey, a historical fashion show and demonstrations of weaving, spinning and basket making.

Preceding it is Carlos Salces’ short film, “En el espejo del cielo” (“In the Mirror of the Sky”), about a peasant boy who sees an airplane reflected in a small pool of water and fantasizes about catching it with his hands.
