Assemblyman in Car That Strikes Barrier

Share

State Assemblyman Scott Baugh was treated at UC Davis Medical Center on Friday night after the car he was riding in crashed into steel barricades designed to keep intruders out of the Capitol basement garage.

The Huntington Beach legislator had been out to dinner with state Sen. Jim Brulte of Rancho Cucamonga. Baugh and his aide, who were in the lead car, had just passed the raised arm at the kiosk in front of the garage when Brulte drove through. A censor was activated, causing the barricades to rise.

Baugh and his aide struck the car roof when their air bags deployed, but weren’t seriously hurt, officials said.

“Our great security system . . . has managed to injure six legislators that I know of,” said state Sen. Steve Peace, (D-El Cajon). “I don’t know of any terrorists it has stopped.”
