Police Say Raids Turned Up Evidence in Officer’s Slaying

Evidence collected during Wednesday’s predawn raids in five cities will be valuable in the prosecution of suspects involved in the shooting death of Long Beach Officer Daryle Black, a police spokesman said Thursday.

“We collected evidence that will help our case against the people who killed our officer,” Officer Dave Marander said. “The six arrests were a bonus.”

Police officers from Long Beach, South Gate and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department raided 24 homes and picked up three weapons--two handguns and one sawed-off rifle--and other evidence, Cmdr. Tim Jackman said.

The six people arrested are believed to be associates of gang members connected to the shooting, but none is directly linked to Black’s slaying, Jackman said.

One of the suspects, 25-year-old Hector Hermosillo, posted $10,000 bail and was released Wednesday night. He was arrested in Compton on suspicion of misdemeanor drug violations and an outstanding traffic warrant and is expected in court June 22.

A 16-year-old girl who was arrested in Lynwood on suspicion of possessing ammunition was released to relatives Wednesday evening.

Albert Navaro, 29, was arrested on suspicion of felony drug violations, and Richard Navaro, 19, was arrested on a traffic warrant. Both are being held at the Long Beach Jail.

Two juvenile boys, 14 and 17, arrested on probation violations were sent to Los Padrinos Juvenile Facility in Downey.

Black was killed April 29.
