‘Irene’s’ Premiere Party Has Split Personality

Share

At the premiere of his new comedy “Me, Myself & Irene” at the Mann Village in Westwood on Thursday evening, Jim Carrey did something that big-time movie stars hardly ever do. He showed up early. Like, an hour early.

And then he cavorted with the hundreds of fans who had won bleacher seats from radio station KROQ-FM (106.7). (Kevin & Bean, the KROQ morning team, broadcast live from the red carpet.)

Perhaps Carrey would have been more subdued if his co-star (and girlfriend) Renee Zellweger had been on hand, but Zellweger is in London making the comedy “Bridget Jones’s Diary” with Hugh Grant.

The after-party, set up at a nearby parking lot, was divided into two sections, each reflecting one of the Carrey character’s personalities. The sweet “Charlie” side was set up with picnic tables, barbecues and a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream truck. The bad “Hank” side was a Sin City-like setting with go-go dancers, loud music and bars at every turn.

For the record, Carrey and the film’s co-writers and directors, Bobby and Peter Farrelly, hung out on the “Charlie” side for most of the evening.

Other guests included Robert Forster and Traylor Howard (both from the film), Matthew Perry, Alicia Silverstone, China Chow, Tom Green, Matthew Lillard and L.A. Kings star Luc Robitaille (the Farrelly brothers are hockey fans, and former Boston Bruin Cam Neely has a part in the movie as Zellweger’s ex-boyfriend). “Me, Myself & Irene” opens Friday.
