A 25-year-old Canoga Park woman was killed when she drove her car into the Long Beach Harbor, authorities said Monday.

Katrina Johnneva Vasquez drove off Queensway Drive into the water near the Queen Mary about 2:30 a.m., said Nancy Tabing, public information officer with the Long Beach Police Department.

She was in the water for about 15 minutes before being pulled out by firefighters. Efforts to revive her were unsuccessful, Tabing said, and she was pronounced dead at 4 a.m. at a nearby hospital.

“The detectives believe it was an accident,” Tabing said. She said Vasquez was driving at an “unsafe speed,” and failed to negotiate two curves before plunging into the water.
