Benjamin Britten’s children’s opera “Noyes Fludde (Noah’s Flood)” is performed by Anne Tomlinson’s Los Angeles Children’s Chorus, joined by adult singers Davis Gaines (God), Nmon Ford-Livene (Noah) and Teresa Brown (Noah’s wife). The Da Camera Orchestra of the Colburn School, conducted by Richard Rintoul, provides the music.

There’s no special grooming necessary for the pet fair at Storyopolis. Noted woodcut artist and sculptor Stephen Huneck (“Sally Goes to the Beach”) will be there, and Priscilla Bonzapart will put on her puppet show with life-size mechanical dogs. Kids can make “furry foto frames,” and there’s a raffle for free doggy day-care at Chateau Marmutt. Don’t have a pet? Adopt one. All this activity kicks off the “4th Annual Storyopolis Pet Show,” an exhibition of pet-themed illustrations, cartoons and sculptures.

Pop Music

The rap and R&B; acts playing at the two-day UrbanFest L.A. concert include some of the genre’s most acclaimed and admired figures, along with some closely watched newcomers. Saturday’s lineup includes Boyz II Men, DJ Quik and Pharoahe Monch, while Sunday is highlighted by Common, De La Soul, Mary Mary, Kina and Avant. The concerts, held on two stages in the heart of the USC campus, are affiliated with the fourth annual Urban Focus Music Conference.

Pop Music

Things have shifted into high gear for Son by Four since the group opened for Shakira at the Arrowhead Pond. The Orlando-based Puerto Rican quartet recorded an English version of its Latin chart hit “A Puro Dolor,” and voila! “Purest of Pain” has become a pop chart smash. The group will display its R&B-flavored; Latin pop when it headlines the House of Blues.

Formerly known as the Cajun & Zydeco Festival, the two-day Long Beach Bayou Festival promises to serve up plenty of Louisiana-style good cheer and hospitality. Contributing to the festivities: nonstop live Cajun, zydeco and swing music; dance lessons; children’s crafts; and costume making for a Mardi Gras parade. Fortify yourself with seafood gumbo or jambalaya.

Jazz

The Leimert Park area in the Crenshaw district is the heart and soul of the Los Angeles jazz scene. The Festival of Music 2000/Jazz Mentorship Program Jazz & Blues Festival--a daylong event in the streets of Leimert Park--features a host of the city’s most visible performers: trumpeter Bobby Rodriguez, singer Linda Hopkins, bassist Nedra Wheeler, keyboardist Billy Mitchell, bluesman Ray Bailey, as well as a special appearance from top jazz mentor and saxophonist Buddy Collette. Arts and crafts booths, dancers, vocal contests, jam sessions and student performances are also on tap.
