SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO

6:30pm

Pop Music and Art

Picnics are a sure sign of summer, and dancing in a 200-year-old courtyard adds the spice. The first of eight summer concerts in Mission San Juan Capistrano’s Music Under the Stars series features the Latin salsa rhythm of Katia Maraes & Sambaguru.

Coinciding with the concert is the opening of an exhibition by Brazilian artist Claudia Marchetti. Her colorful work focuses on mandalas--ancient patterns formed from primary forms including curves, circles and spirals--drawn on paper handcrafted from rice, corn husk, onion scale leaves and sugar cane straw. Through July 20.

* Katia Maraes & Sambaguru in Music Under the Stars Summer Concert Series, Mission San Juan Capistrano, 31522 Camino Capistrano. 6:30 p.m. $10 to $12. Claudia Marchetti exhibition, $4 to $6, includes regular mission admission. (949) 248-2047.
