Sprint PCS Exec Named President, CEO of TelePacific Communications

* Los Angeles-based TelePacific Communications named Richard L. Kimsey president and chief executive, succeeding founder David Glickman. Glickman will remain chairman of the telecommunications company. Kimsey joins TelePacific after five years at Sprint PCS, where he was president of the wireless company’s Southeast region. Kimsey was also an executive director at Cox Enterprises, and spent eight years with BellSouth’s cellular unit. TelePacific sells phone and Internet services in six California markets and Las Vegas. The company recently announced a $125-million investment from Investcorp. (Elizabeth Douglass)

* Carolyn Bivens, former senior vice president and associate publisher of USA Today, has joined Los Angeles-based Initiative Media North America as managing director of the media-buying company’s Western region. Jim Bell, who joined Initiative in 1999, was promoted to managing director of the Eastern region. Larry Orell, most recently general manager of Lord Group, was named executive vice president and general manager of the company’s New York office. “These announcements reflect our continued commitment to evolve to meet the rapidly changing needs of the national and global marketplaces,” said Initiative Media North America Chairman and Chief Executive Lou Schultz.
