Injured Deputy Needs Blood

Deputy Steve Parsons, who was seriously injured Monday in Aliso Viejo when his motorcycle was broadsided by a driver who witnesses said ran a red light, is in urgent need of donations of type O negative blood, Orange County sheriff’s officials said.

Parsons suffered broken bones, internal injuries and serious brain trauma when he was struck by an Oldsmobile sedan traveling about 50 mph through the intersection of Laguna Hills Drive and Moulton Parkway.

Doctors at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center induced a coma Monday to reduce pressure on Parsons’ brain. The coma could last up to two weeks, officials said.

Authorities have yet to determine whether the driver of the car, Laguna Hills resident Sylvia Steinhardt, 77, will face charges.

Sheriff’s officials said Parsons’ family asks potential blood donors to call the Orange County Chapter of the American Red Cross at (714) 835-5381 or (800) GIVELIFE.
