Opening of Knott’s Plunge Will Be Delayed to Mid-July

Knott’s Berry Farm will open its latest thrill ride, Perilous Plunge, on July 15, two weeks later than previously scheduled, a spokesman for the Buena Park theme park said Friday. Perilous Plunge, which sends 24-passenger boats down a 115-foot water chute, was to have opened July 1. Knott’s spokesman Bob Ochsner said more time is needed for landscaping and to perfect operating procedures. “There’s a significant amount of testing and training due to the technical complexities of the ride,” Ochsner said. The attraction is billed as the world’s tallest and steepest water ride. Ochsner said attendance has been strong at Soak City USA, the separate-admission water park Knott’s opened this month. “Peanuts”-themed events celebrating the comic strip’s 50th anniversary helped boost attendance at the original park, he said.
