Irene Coleman Johnson; Longtime Educator

Ventura resident Irene Coleman Johnson, a retired schoolteacher, died Monday. She was 95.

She was born Nov. 6, 1904, in Phoenix. A University of Redlands graduate, she returned to Phoenix to teach business and English at Phoenix Union High School.

She married Noble S. Johnson in 1934 and the couple moved to Ventura, where she was a homemaker.

After World War II, she taught business at Ventura College and later taught business and English at Ventura and Buena high schools.

Her husband of 57 years preceded her in death in 1991.

She is survived by daughters Sally Johnson McMillan of Ventura and Elizabeth Dominice-Johnson of Geneva, Switzerland; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. July 29 at Church of the Foothills in Ventura, with the Rev. John Martin officiating.

Memorial gifts in her memory may be made to Community Presbyterian Church, Livingston Memorial Nurse Assn., or the Church of the Foothills’ Music Fund in Ventura.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
