Car Bomb Injures 4 in Basque Region
A car bomb exploded in Spain’s Basque region early today, injuring at least four people in the latest attack blamed on the separatist guerrilla group Basque Homeland and Freedom, or ETA, officials said. Phone calls in the name of ETA alerted police to the bomb 15 minutes before the blast in Getxo, giving authorities time to cordon off the area and avert more serious casualties. The attack came just three weeks after a member of Spain’s conservative ruling party became the fifth person killed in a suspected ETA attack since the rebels called off their 14-month cease-fire in December.
