Lakers’ O’Neal Says He’s Still on Unions’ Team

Shaquille O’Neal, who appeared in a commercial for Disneyland moments after leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a National Basketball Assn. title, reiterated his support Monday for members of two unions that are striking against the advertising industry.

“I’ve been through two work stoppages in my career and I know how very difficult they are to union members and their families,” O’Neal said in a news release issued by the NBA player, the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

“As a SAG and AFTRA member, I fully support the strike, and hope that negotiations can resume in the very near future so both sides can get back to business as quickly as possible.”

O’Neal sparked an angry response from union leaders for the commercial filmed just seconds after the Lakers’ June 19 win over the Indiana Pacers.
