A 77-year-old woman was unnerved but not injured after she was subdued during a home-invasion robbery early Monday morning, authorities said.

The robber entered the victim’s Palmdale mobile home in the 5200 block of Entrar Drive about 8:30 a.m. Wearing a scarf over his mouth, he startled the sleeping woman, pointed a small-caliber handgun at her and ordered her to get on the ground, police said.

When she didn’t comply, she was bound and a piece of tape was placed over her mouth, said Deputy Paul Ullman of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The robber took several pieces of jewelry and fled in her car, a 1993 white Pontiac Grand Am. The woman managed to crawl out her front door, where a landscaper saw her and called authorities.

She was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

“She was very traumatized by this,” Ullman said. “She was so upset it was hard for us to get much information from her.”

Authorities don’t know whether the victim was targeted or the gunman randomly chose her home.

The robber is described as a Latino in his mid-20s, about 5 feet 8, with a medium build and short bleached blond hair. He was wearing a baseball cap and a long-sleeved shirt. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at (661) 267-4300.
