Eric Quill beat goalkeeper Matt Napoleon in the 82nd minute as the Tampa Bay Mutiny defeated Columbus, 2-1, on Wednesday night before 13,030 at Columbus, Ohio, to move into a first-place tie in the Central Division.
Tampa Bay and Chicago (9-7-3) each have 30 points.
Quill beat Napoleon after Steve Trittschuh’s header deflected off the right post.
Colorado 1, Dallas 0--David Kramer made three saves before 4,640 at Denver for his second shutout of the season.
New York-New Jersey 0, San Jose 0--The scoreless tie before 10,476 at East Rutherford, N.J., moved the MetroStars into a first-place tie in the Eastern Division.
