Brett Kay’s infield single with two outs in the ninth inning scored Steve Woodward from third and Kirk Saarloos pitched out of trouble in the bottom of the inning as Cal State Fullerton rallied for a 5-4 nonconference victory Tuesday at Pepperdine.

Saarloos pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit and striking out one. The Waves had men on first and second with one out in the ninth but Saarloos got the final two outs on a foul pop and a strikeout.

David Bacani singled to open the ninth and Woodward then beat out a bunt. Murph Norris followed with a sacrifice and Chris Beck walked to load the bases. Jason Carapci’s hard grounder turned into a force out at second as Bacani scored the game-tying run. Kay then hit a hard grounder at shortstop Tony Garcia and it went off him for a hit as Woodward scored from third with the winning run.
