Allen Scores 29 in Cypress Victory

Triana Allen of Cypress scored 29 points, going seven of 10 from three-point range, to spark a 75-45 victory over eighth-seeded San Diego Mesa in the second round of the Southern California women’s basketball playoffs Tuesday night at San Diego.

Allen and Sharee Brown set the pace for the Chargers with Allen scoring 22 points, including five three-pointers, in the first half. Brown scored 12 of her 15 points in the first half.

Cypress (12-19) will meet top-seeded Ventura Friday night in the third round.

In another playoff game:

Orange Coast 82, Bakersfield 69--Leah Wilde hit seven of 10 field goals in the first half to help Orange Coast to a big first-half lead. Wilde finished with 23 points. Teammate Karyn Fierst had 20 points and four assists. Orange Coast plays Cerritos on Friday.

In Orange Empire Conference baseball:

Cypress 11, Golden West 7--Pitcher Ray Aguilar came on in relief and threw seven innings, allowing only four hits and one run for Cypress.

Jeff Ruziecki hit a two-run home run and Daylon Monette hit a solo homer, which proved to be the game-winner, in the fourth inning for the visiting Chargers (13-0, 1-0). Golden West is 9-5, 1-1.

In another conference game:

Riverside 12, Saddleback 7--Saddleback blew a 7-5 lead late, giving up seven runs in the last two innings. Vinnie Valiente’s double was the only extra-base hit for the Gauchos (9-3, 0-2).

In Orange Empire Conference softball:

Riverside 5, Irvine Valley 0 (8)--Host Irvine Valley (2-5, 0-1) was locked in a scoreless duel until the eighth inning when they surrendered five runs, three of them unearned.

Stephanie Ellery had the only hit for the Lasers.

Santa Ana 4, Orange Coast 3--Down, 2-1, in the fifth, Ana Velazquez hit a two-run single that put Santa Ana up, 3-2. Wendi Kralich (8-4) went the distance, giving up four hits.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Saddleback 8, Fullerton 1--Sean Ruitenberg swept in singles, 6-0, 6-0, then teamed with Jon Balos to win in doubles, 8-1, for host Saddleback (5-0, 2-0).

In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:

Saddleback 9, Fullerton 0--Saddleback’s Karen Amos, Cecilia Loreto and Ronjini Makhopadhyay didn’t lose a set in the Gaucho’s victory.
