No. 5 Temple Is Shot Down by St. Joseph’s, 62-59

Marvin O’Connor made five three-point baskets and scored 20 points as St. Joseph’s upset No. 5 Temple, 62-59, in an Atlantic-10 Conference game Tuesday night at the Palestra in Philadelphia.

Na’im Crenshaw made two free throws with 16.7 seconds remaining to give the Hawks their first victory over Temple (22-5, 13-2) since 1995.

Temple had a chance to tie, but Mark Karcher missed a three-point attempt from the corner with two seconds left.

Crenshaw and Damian Reid each scored 10 points for St. Joseph’s (12-14, 7-8).

No. 14 Indiana 79, No. 20 Purdue 65--A.J. Guyton scored 17 points at Bloomington, Ind., as the Hoosiers knocked the Boilermakers out of first place in the Big Ten.

It was the final game of the regular season for Purdue (21-8, 12-4), which needs Ohio State and Michigan State to lose at least one of their final two games in order to claim a share of the title. Indiana (20-6, 10-5) finishes Sunday at Wisconsin.

No. 18 St. John’s 66, Seton Hall 60--The Red Storm overcame the loss of Erick Barkley, who was declared ineligible by the NCAA before the game, to run their win streak to eight games in a Big East game at New York.

It was the second time the guard missed games because of rules violations. Bootsy Thornton had 28 points for the Red Storm (21-6, 12-3). Seton Hall is 19-8 and 10-6.

No. 22 Kentucky 73, Mississippi State 61--Jamaal Magloire and Tayshaun Prince each scored 16 points as the Wildcats survived poor shooting at Starkville, Miss. Kentucky (21-8, 11-4 in the Southeastern Conference) missed its first 11 three-point attempts and finished five of 27. Antonio Jackson and Michael Gholar led the Bulldogs (13-15, 4-11) with 12 points each.

WOMEN

Swin Cash scored 17 points at Providence, R.I., as No. 1 Connecticut closed its regular season with a 102-68 victory over Providence. Connecticut (27-1, 16-0) is 120-4 in Big East regular-season play the past seven seasons. Meghan Hinds led Providence (10-16, 5-11) with 15 points.

In other games involving top 25 teams: Texas Tech clinched its third consecutive Big 12 championship as the No. 7 Lady Raiders routed Baylor, 105-52, at Lubbock, Texas. Aleah Johnson had 22 points for Texas Tech (24-3, 13-3). Monica Arnold scored nine points for Baylor (7-19, 2-14). . . . Shawnetta Stewart scored 19 points at Villanova, Pa., as No. 8 Rutgers (20-6, 12-4 in the Big East) beat Villanova, 76-60. Jen Skeeters had 17 points for Villanova (14-13, 7-9). . . . Alissa Murphy scored 25 points as No. 19 Boston College (23-7, 12-4 in the Big East) defeated Syracuse, 80-60, at Boston. Beth Record led Syracuse (10-17, 3-13) with 15 points.
