8:45 am: Marathon

Share

It may be the baby of big-city marathons (only 15 years old compared to Boston’s 113-year tradition), but the L.A. Marathon is more than just a big race. There will be the Acura Bike Tour of the course at 6 a.m., the wheelchair division races at 8:20 and 8:33 a.m., a 5K run/walk at 9:30 a.m. and entertainment along the course, from Chinese lion dancing to gospel music. And then there’s the big race--with 20,000 participants, including Kenyan Simon Bor, who is back to defend his title. Last year, he ran the 26.2 miles in 2:09:25, faster than some of us drive during rush hour.

* L.A. Marathon XV starts at 8:45 a.m. at Figueroa and 5th streets downtown and ends at the Los Angeles Public Library, at Flower and 6th streets. (310) 444-5544. Internet: https://www.lamarathon.com.
