Rising enrollment rates are forcing the Placentia-Yorba Linda School District to seek a $2.1-million expansion of facilities for the new school year, officials said this week.

“Enrollment rates have been increasing and we really need additional space” said Stella Doiron, director of facilities and planning.

Thirty classrooms will be built by the district at 11 schools before the 2000-01 school year starts in September. Money to pay for the new classrooms will come from the district’s facilities fund, which includes a recent $2.3-million payment from the Orange County bankruptcy settlement.
