Titans Set to Face 3 Ranked Teams
Four of the nation’s top-ranked college baseball teams, including host Cal State Fullerton, will be competing today through Sunday in the Kia Baseball Bash at Titan Field.
The Titans (6-5) are ranked fourth and seventh, respectively, in the national polls. USC (9-3), which defeated Fullerton, 7-6, this season, is ranked seventh and 11th, and Georgia Tech (8-4) is 10th and sixth. Mississippi State (9-0) is 23rd in one of the polls.
Fullerton moved above .500 for the first time this season Monday with a 5-4 victory at Pepperdine.
Adam Johnson (1-0) is scheduled to pitch for the Titans against Mississippi State tonight at 7, with Matt Sorensen (1-0) to pitch on Saturday against Georgia Tech. Jon Smith (2-1) will start against USC on Sunday.
Those starters, along with closer Kirk Saarloos (2-2), have a 2.01 earned-run average, giving up 15 earned runs in 67 innings.
The tournament schedule:
Today--Georgia Tech vs. USC, 2:30 p.m.; Fullerton vs. Mississippi State, 7 p.m.
Saturday--Mississippi State vs. USC, 2:30 p.m.; Fullerton vs. Georgia Tech, 7 p.m.
Sunday--Georgia Tech vs. Mississippi State, 1 p.m.; Fullerton vs. USC, 5:30 p.m. (TV, Orange County NewsChannel).
