Rain Forecast Through Weekend

Cloudy skies today are expected to turn to scattered showers through the night with another arctic storm headed to the coast by sunrise Sunday.

A weather system off the coast means a 20% chance of rain in Ventura County all day today with highs in the 50s, said National Weather Service meteorologist David Gomberg.

Another storm from the Gulf of Alaska is expected to hit the coast by sunrise Sunday, Gomberg said.

Forecasters are calling for cold, breezy weather with a 60% chance of rain, bringing as much as 1 inch to coastal areas and up to 2 inches in the mountains.

“That would be just about our coldest storm this season,” said Gomberg.

Highs should reach the upper 50s along the coast and the 30s in the mountains.

The cooler weather is expected to continue Monday with a slight chance of showers in the morning.

Warmer weather with partly cloudy skies is forecast for Tuesday.

Clear skies earlier this week gave saturated areas a chance to dry out, said Ventura County Flood Control spokeswoman Robin Jester.

For the most part, county workers aren’t worried that the rains forecast for this weekend will prompt landslides or flooding, she said.

Although areas in Ojai and near the Matilija Dam are vulnerable to slides, most parts of the county can sustain more rains.
