Stars Romp Over Coyotes

Aaron Gavey and Jamie Langenbrunner each had a goal and an assist as the Dallas Stars scored four goals in a 10-minute span of the third period Friday night to defeat the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-1, at Phoenix.

The Stars have a seven-point lead over the Coyotes in the Pacific Division.

Chicago 5, Tampa Bay 1--Tony Amonte had two goals in a game at Chicago that included a second-period fight between goalies Steve Passmore and Dan Cloutier.

N.Y. Rangers 4, Florida 2--Mike York had a goal and an assist at New York as the Rangers moved into seventh place in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Detroit 2, Washington 2--Steve Yzerman scored on a power play with 5:02 to play in regulation, capping the Red Wings’ rally from a 2-0 deficit at Washington.

The Boston Bruins said they are willing to trade 18-time all-star Ray Bourque, who has spent his entire 21-year career with the team, if he wants one last chance at a Stanley Cup before retiring. . . . Teppo Numminen of the Phoenix Coyotes, who had played in every regular-season game since the franchise moved from Winnipeg in 1996, ended his streak of 360 consecutive games when he did not suit up against the Stars on Friday because of a hip flexor. It was the longest current streak in the NHL. . . . Eric Lindros, Keith Primeau and Ulf Samuelsson, all returning from injuries, will be in uniform for the Philadelphia Flyers tonight against the Bruins. . . . Left wing Geoff Sanderson of the Buffalo Sabres will be sidelined at least a week because of a sprained left knee.
