Teen Charged in Hacking of Anti-Drug Site

Share

A computer hacker known as “Coolio” was arrested by New Hampshire authorities and charged with defacing the Web site of a Los Angeles anti-drug organization. The hacker, previously known only by his pseudonym, was identified as Dennis M. Moran, 17, of Wolfeboro, N.H. Private security experts previously linked Moran to the more serious “denial of service” attacks on Yahoo and other Web sites last month. But authorities said that Moran has denied being responsible for those crimes, and that so far there is no evidence he committed them. The arrest culminates an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department. The investigation also involved the FBI and the New Hampshire attorney general’s office. Moran will be tried as an adult in New Hampshire and faces a maximum sentence of 15 years if convicted.
