OXNARD — Television personality and boxing referee Mills Lane is scheduled to speak at a leadership conference in Oxnard Saturday.
Lane, a Nevada district judge and one of the most colorful and best-known referees in U.S. boxing, will speak at the Ventura County Leadership Academy’s annual conference at the Casa Sirena Hotel & Marina. The conference kicks off Friday, with Lane set to speak at noon Saturday.
Lane is expected to address a panel on leadership-program development and personal improvement in local communities.
Before Lane speaks, Russell Gough, a professor of ethics and philosophy at Pepperdine University, will offer a keynote address.
“We are inviting everyone in the community who wants to attend, because this is a very important conference,” said Harry Lee, executive director of the leadership academy. “Having Mills Lane, a sharp and honorable man . . . is a great opportunity for all of us.”
Lane, who has a law degree, has been the referee in hundreds of championship bouts.
Lane, who still officiates championship fights, also sits behind the bench of his syndicated television show, “Judge Mills Lane.”
