LA HABRA
The city’s Community Services Commission approved a request by the La Habra Police Assn. to name a park on Hacienda Boulevard after a slain officer.
In a 4-0 vote, the commission approved the renaming of Hacienda Park, on Hacienda Boulevard just north of Whittier Boulevard, in honor of Officer Michael Anthony Osornio.
Osornio was killed in 1994 when his patrol car was hit by a drunk driver, police officials said. He was the first officer to lose his life in the line of duty in the department’s 75 years, they added.
The decision to rename Hacienda Park now goes to the city’s Planning Commission, and then on to City Council. Meanwhile, the city is working to annex the land the park occupies from Orange County, city officials said.
