What about Bill Bradley as Gore’s vice president? Wow, what a combination!

Al Gore contends that he will do really great things to correct the current problems with education, gun control, foreign affairs, term limits, Medicare, Social Security, and he goes on and on.

Where were he and Bill Clinton when all of these things began to go so bad that they need the degree of correction that he now contends? Why has he let conditions deteriorate? Why did he not bring these problems to our attention years ago, when they started? Why has he not sponsored legislation years ago that would have corrected these problems?

Where have you been, Mr. Gore? The duties of the vice president must not be so time-consuming if you can spend all of your time campaigning.

George W. Bush, the presumptive Republican nominee, has the dubious distinction of being the least-qualified nominee of either party in over 40 years. Virtually every nominee of the Democratic and Republican parties has had a substantive record in the public sector. Bush has essentially been a one-term governor, period.

It is amazing what $70 million and a famous name can do for you.

Boy, the Republicans have done it again--picked the wrong guy! The party faithful have anointed their favorite son (I guess in appreciation of President Bush’s contributions) and now have the candidate who won’t beat Gore. It’s amazing how they shoot themselves in the foot so often--it’s pretty obvious to everyone except the machine that McCain can get Democratic and independent votes and George W. cannot.

Oh well, there’s always 2004.

Re “Amid All the Good News, Some Ominous Signs for Bush,” news analysis, March 8: Exit polling may be valuable as an indicator for election turnout, but the raw numbers certainly are more dramatic. In California, the combined Gore-Bradley vote was 2.9 million. On the other hand, the combined Bush-McCain-Keyes vote was 3.7 million.

In other words, Republicans outpolled Democrats 56% to 44%. Is that an ominous sign for Bush or Gore in the fall?

An unlimited bank account did not help Steve Forbes. Pandering to a fawning press did not help McCain. Character, a good strategy and a loyal constituency propelled Bush to victory in Tuesday’s primary. We await Act II.
