Dosedel, Novak to Lead Czech Team Against U.S.
Slava Dosedel, Jiri Novak, Daniel Vacek and David Rikl were selected to play for the Czech Republic in its Davis Cup quarterfinal match against the United States at the Great Western Forum on April 7-9.
U.S. Davis Cup captain John McEnroe, who already has picked Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi, said he expects Dosedel and Novak to play singles. Vacek and Rikl are experienced doubles players.
Dosedel reached the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open last year--beating Novak in the fourth round--and lost to Sampras in the fourth round at the Australian Open in January. Vacek won the 1996 and 1997 French Open doubles titles, as well as the 1997 U.S. Open, with Yevgeny Kafelnikov.
The Czech Republic beat Britain, 4-1, in the first round on clay in Ostrava. Britain dismissed captain David Lloyd last week.
