How About Barkley in Monday Night Booth?

Share

To Howard Katz, president, ABC Sports:

Just a note to let you know that the problem with “Monday Night Football” is not Boomer Esiason. It’s much simpler than that. The problem is the teams on the field, 22 players with no charisma, half with names on police blotters, others waiting for their contracts to end, who then sign with new owners with the biggest checkbooks. Most couldn’t spell loyalty, let alone show any to a team.

Where are the next Joe Montana, John Elway or Steve Young? The only real game worth watching was the Super Bowl, and it wasn’t on “Monday Night Football.” A new producer isn’t going to give you the spark desired. The sameness to the show is on the field, not in the TV booth.

Page 3 today [March 7] tells me that Charles “I hate all white people” Barkley has been signed to a studio analyst contract by Turner Sports. As far as I’m concerned, this is like hiring John Rocker as a PR guy at Disney World.
