Farnham Enjoys His Final Day at Pauley Pavilion

It was not a perfect day. Sean Farnham also got an elbow in the second half from Washington’s Thalo Green that by the end of the game had turned the corner of his left eye flint colored.

Other than that, though: Farnham started in his final home game as a Bruin, his sixth consecutive game opening at power forward. He got loud ovations during Senior Day ceremonies and during the pregame announcement of lineups. He scored a basket. He left with 2:16 remaining to another loud ovation and hugs from coaches and teammates. He left Pauley Pavilion a winner.

“I asked Coach [Steve] Lavin to take me out with a little time on the clock,” said Farnham, who used to be a walk-on and has always been a Pauley favorite. “I wanted to hear the crowd’s reaction. That was probably the most selfish thing I’ve done here in my four years. But I wanted to hear the fans.

“To me, this was a culmination, an end of a run at Pauley Pavilion that no one could have imagined when I came here as a freshman.”

Ron Steinschriber, the head student manager, was also saluted as a departing senior.

Not only is the six-game winning streak the Bruins’ longest since they claimed eight consecutive victories early last season, but they have won six in a row in conference for the first time since 1996-97.
