Two students were awarded $500 each at Chapman University in Orange on Monday for placing first in an essay contest about the Holocaust. Ann Shin of Imperial Middle School in La Habra and Alexandra Toumanoff of University High School in Los Angeles each wrote a 500-word essay about a photo of a little girl liberated from Bergen-Belsen, the camp in which Anne Frank died. Marilyn Harran, religious studies and history professor at Chapman, organized the contest, which involved students from 47 schools in Orange County and three schools in Los Angeles County.
