The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified school board has raised fees for developers in a move that could generate an additional $90,000 a year for local schools.

Board members passed the measure, 4 to 1, without discussion last week.

“Due to a statewide measure, districts with enough justification can raise developer fees,” said Don Trigg, assistant superintendent for administrative services.

Under the approval from the State Allocation Board--the body in charge of analyzing the cost increases for school districts--the local district will raise the developer fees from $1.93 per square foot to $2.05 for residential projects, and from 31 cents to 33 cents for commercial-industrial developments.

The collected fees go directly into the district’s facility fund, which is used for new classrooms and buildings.
