County transit officials last week heard complaints from residents about proposed bus system changes expected in the fall, despite modifications to the plan.

David Elbaum, the authority’s director of planning and development, argued at a City Council meeting Tuesday that the proposed “straight-lining” of the county’s bus routes would increase coverage and draw more riders.

The new system is intended to untangle and eliminate overlapping routes throughout the county and create a “one street, one route” system, transit officials said. It would cut travel times for most riders, they said.

But they also predict that about 30% of riders would have to transfer more often, and about 350 riders would have to walk farther to bus stops.
