How Silva Can Restore Faith
* Supervisor Jim Silva stated in his letter to the Los Angeles Times of March 12 his desire to resolve the divisive El Toro issue by focusing on cooperation rather than conflict and to work to ensure that the community’s concerns are addressed.
If the supervisor is indeed serious in his desire to work together and to reconcile differences, he must be willing to invite Irvine and Lake Forest to become full members of the Local Redevelopment Authority on El Toro.
He also must be willing to eliminate the “fatal flaw” provision as a condition for the approval of the Millennium Plan.
These two provisions should restore credibility to the planning process. Moreover, it will start the process of restoring the public’s confidence in their county government.

* It is truly disappointing to note the lack of acceptance by a county supervisor of Measure F’s passage.
A two-thirds majority can hardly be compared with the narrow margins of earlier versions. In fact, if all of the relevant material were to be made known, there would be an even greater likelihood of passing such a measure.
The supervisor’s suggestion that we must focus on cooperation is specious. The fact is that he must focus on the will of the people.
