Mayor Susan Ritschel and several local leaders and business owners put their daily routines on hold to take charge of schools in Capistrano Unified’s annual Principal for a Day event.
The event allowed elected officials as well as residents to experience leadership at the district’s campuses.
The large number of specialized programs that take place during a typical day surprised Ritschel, who was in charge one day last week at Clarence Lobo Elementary School.
“I have a much better understanding and appreciation for the position,” she said. “It’s a huge job.”
